Skating at Woodhaven
Skating at Woodhaven, January 2013

After moving to the northwoods of Wisconsin, people used to ask, “what is there to do all winter long?”  Instantly, visions of sledding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice fishing, moonlit hikes, bonfires, and yes, ice skating, flash across my mind’s eye like a movie trailer in fast forward.  Winter is the season of having the woods and lakes to ourselves; free of bugs and vacationers.

We spent an hour, or so, this weekend shoveling off a nice skating rink on the lake.  Some municipalities spend thousands for such a luxury!
